Civil Engineering Design for the Sunset Hammock Public Art Project in Tamarac
Sunset Hammock is a monumental environmental public art installation located at Sunset Point Park in Tamarac, Florida. Designed by Margi Glavovic Nothard of Glavovic Studio, the project features a 200-foot-long modular red aluminum walkway and a 20-by-3-foot community periscope offering views of the Everglades. The installation aims to raise awareness about the ecological significance of the Everglades and serves as a community gathering space.
Civil Engineering Services Provided
RSP Engineers was responsible for the civil engineering design and permitting aspects of the Sunset Hammock project. Our services included:

Development of paving, grading, and drainage plans
We coordinated with Broward County and the City of Tamarac to obtain the necessary building permits and stormwater licenses, ensuring compliance with all local regulations.

The Sunset Hammock installation not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of Sunset Point Park but also serves as an educational platform. It includes a children's art program developed in collaboration with the Young At Art Museum. The project has been recognized with several awards and grants, including the NEA Our Town Grant and the AIA Fort Lauderdale Honor Award.
